Kathmandu: The Supreme Court (SC) has issued an order summoning the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers for a discussion on waste management in the Kathmandu Valley.

A division bench comprising Justices Dr. Kumar Chundal and Mahesh Sharma Paudel has directed high-level government officials to appear before the court on March 24. Those summoned include the Chief Secretary, the Secretary at the Ministry of Forest and Environment, the Secretary at the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, and the chief administrative officers of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Lalitpur Metropolitan City, and Bhaktapur Municipality.

The summons follows separate writ petitions filed by advocate Padam Bahadur Shrestha on behalf of Effort Lab and advocate Bikram Mishra. The petitions named the Environment Ministry as a defendant, highlighting the challenges of waste management in Kathmandu and urging the court to issue directives for effective and sustainable waste disposal solutions.
